Planet Nomads is a Steam early access, open world, survival game on a planet which has varying biomes for the player to explore. In the game, you crash land on this planet and have to survive in the wilderness by yourself. As a lone scientist, you, the player, have to use your wit and knowledge to create whatever basic needs you require in this sci-fi sandbox. The is constantly being updated and is never boring. When starting a new save in Planet Nomads the player is presented with a sleek looking menu which prompts them if they want to play a survival game, or a creative game. The feature is something fairly small, but it proves that the developers have thoughts quite deeply about who they might want to target for their audience. For an early access survival game, it is very good that they have already considered that not many people will want to do the “survival” element of the game and just want to build a cool base or a cool car. After all, not everybody is into resource...
Offensive Combat: Redux! Is quite an interesting game. It
was only just released on the 18th of August and I honestly don’t
know what to think about this game. It is an FPS with a class building and a
character customization. I’ll start with what I enjoy and then move on to what
I don’t enjoy.
The game is funny. Ignoring the outdated memes and the fact
that there is nothing really “offensive” to anybody, except for maybe Americans,
the game is very fun. The concept that you have to taunt your kill in order to
receive full points for the kill is quite funny and honestly adds an extra
element of difficulty into the game. It makes the players have to run up to
kills in order to have some ridiculous taunt, simply to receive more points.
There is also a nice variety of weapons in the game. From
assault rifles to pistols, I have never found myself to become bored of using
the weapons. Granted some of them are a bit better than others, if used
correctly, each weapon can beat a player with a different weapon or even the
same weapon. The snipers are fun and the assault rifles definitely create some
awesome firefights! The weapon customization also fits right in, with players
often having to choose between small differences such as lower reload time or
bigger magazine. Quite in depth, yet I have to say not overly complicated for
users to navigate.
The map design is nice and symmetrical in most cases and the
colours always allow it to be easier to see enemy and friendly players (if
there are any). Along with the maps there are a nice variety of game modes to
accompany them. They allow for each map to be played slightly differently.
The character customization leaves plenty of choice and
apart from the chicken costume, I don’t believe I have ever seen two users wear
the exact same costume. It adds flare to the game and makes the taunts ever
more entertaining. Granted, when you first start playing the game it isn’t
particularly interesting as you only have one or two costumes available, but
that is quickly fixed after playing a few games!
So what don’t I like? A lot of the issues that I have with
the game aren’t related to the game itself, more of the selling of it and the
community, or should I say the lack of a community. The most played game mode
that people are playing is deathmatch, which really isn’t the games highest
point as it’s just a cluster of people dying and no way to possibly get any
taunts. The game simply came out of nowhere and nobody had actually heard about
it. I feel like it’s such a shame, as the single team deathmatch game that I
played was insanely fun and it’s where I got my views of the game from.
The game also costs more than CS:GO, which has a far better
shooter experience and also has more content. There is so much potential in
this game and such a lack of content. I spoke to some of the players in game
and content was the biggest missed opportunity in our opinion. It could be
amazing and the art style could be ignored too, but because it costs £14.99 for
a game that has the equivalent of a free to play game in content and graphics
from 2007 everybody cares about the little things. It’s not like the developers
can hide the small issues with an overwhelming amount of content. I mean, the
melee weapons are all the exact same except for the looks. What is the deal
with that?
I can’t say that I recommend Offensive Combat: Redux!, but
at the same time it is really fun, so I can’t not recommend it at the same
time. I don’t believe it is worth the full £14.99 for the game, but at a lower
price it might be considered one of the more fun FPS games that has been
released this year. However, the game isn’t really that offensive. I feel like
it only holds Offensive in it’s name as it is a remake, but for todays
standards for me at least, nothing in the game is offensive.
